Last gasp goal denies Men of first win again!

Plymouth Marjon threw away a late lead for the second time in two weeks at home to Stourport in the men’s national league western conference to remain rooted to the bottom of the league. The draw leaves Plymouth still searching for their elusive first win since returning although unbeaten in three games. Plymouth created some excellent first half chances the best was a James Haigh reverse strike firing off the post. Stourport took the lead after 9 minutes when Mark Moss fire home from close range after Plymouth failed to clear at the back. Unable to take their chances Plymouth were caught again with Sebastian Knights capitalizing on some slack play. Some harsh words at the break from player coach Calum Giles roused Plymouth who took the game to the visitors. An early break through after 43 minutes saw Stourport unable to clear a Giles penalty corner with Richard Headlam on hand to score his first for the club from close range.  Mid way through the half Simon Fenwick scored his first of the season with a bullet of a shot into the corner. With the game turned on its head Lewis Waitt scored from close range to take the lead for Plymouth. With brother Jason Waitt keeping Stourport out for 34 minutes in the second half a break away resulted in a catalogue of Plymouth errors with Stourport scoring in the final minute from a penalty corner strike to leave Plymouth deflated. Assistant coach Jamie Oxley summed up his sides performance as disappointing, “we worked hard but were simply punished for three mistakes which lead to the opposition scoring all their goals”. Dave Lynch was the Plymouth player of the match with James Haigh a close second.

Plymouth Marjon women moved up to third in the women’s premier division with a comfortable 2-0 home win over Taunton leapfrogging over their visitors in the league. The win sees Ali Falconer’s side cement their place in the with five win in their first 7 games their ever start in the top division.
