Plymouth Marjon HC was formed in 2001(Formely known as Marjons of Plymouth Men's), from an amalgamation of what were arguably the two top teams in Plymouth, ‘The College of St. Mark and St. John’ and the ‘City of Plymouth’. This enabled the Club to grow and become one of the best in the South West in such a short space of time. Two years later the respective women’s clubs joined together (Plymouth & Marjons WHC)and after a steady start saw major progress on and off the pitch just like the men. In 2005 the decision was made by the Men’s, Women’s, Junior and Veteran clubs to form the biggest Club in Devon and Cornwall. Our combined membership now stands at over 300 players and 26 sides! Recent highlights include a two year spell for the men's 1st XI in the national league in 2005-07 and after last seasons promotion the men will be returning to compete in the second tier of the national league during the 2009-10 season. The Women’s first XI followed the men in gaining promotion back to the West Women's regional top flight after a unbeaten league season to win the west women's premier division two. The club now runs 6 senior men's league teams and 3 senior womens teams alongside its Vets and development teams at the weekend.
In 2007-8 the highlight for the club was the success for the men's Vets side who progressed all the way to the national cup semi finals losing 6-0 against the eventual winners Ipswich after a number of hard earned wins over Isca and City of York after penalty strokes.
Club teams also play friendly fixtures against our Vets and Youth teams. In addition Plymouth Marjon also have a number of affiliated teams playing in the Plymouth Mixed League, Saints and Eagles to mention 2 which play between May and July across the city.
The Club is also heavily involved in the coaching and development of grass roots junior hockey. We currently run U18, U16, U14, U12, and U10s teams which compete in a range of local, county and national competitions. The clubs thriving junior & youth club which runs on a Mondays (Plymstock), Tuesday (Girls), Thursdays (Boys) and a Sunday morning.
